Madrid snap up Jovic

Real Madrid will sign striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical being passed.

The 21-year-old Serbian international has agreed a six-year deal with the La Liga giants.

Reports suggest the fee is in excess of £52m as Madrid try to get back on track after a season of upheaval that saw them have three different managers.

Jovic only joined the Bundesliga side on a permanent deal in April, when they activated a clause following a two- year loan spell from Benfica.

The forward netted 27 goals in 48 games last season, including in both legs of Frankfurt's Europa League semi-final defeat to Chelsea, taking his tally into double figures in this season's competition.

Frankfurt are believed to have paid Benfica around £6m for Jovic, and Sporting Director Fredi Bobic says the deal is good business.

"Luka Jovic is a big loss for us. His explosiveness and scoring skills have spread throughout Europe and we've benefited not only from his goals over the past two years. But for us it was clear that there is a financial pain threshold," he said in a statement confirming the deal.

"For Eintracht Frankfurt this is a good and important transfer. We wish Luka only the best for his future. He has the best qualifications for a great career. And we are proud that we were able to support him along the way."

Frankfurt will pay Jovic's former club Benfica around £10.5million of the transfer fee as part of their previous agreement with the Portuguese club.

Serbia meanwhile are 11/4 to win Euro 2020 Qualifying Group B, with Portugal 11/10 and Ukraine currently 11/8.
