Medeama midfielder, Malik Akowuah may have earned himself a big-money move to South African side Mamelodi Sundowns after impressing The Brazilians coach, Pitso Mosimane in his side's 3-1 CAF Confederation play-off loss on Saturday.

The PSL champions are in the hunt for a replacement for Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu who is in his last season with Sundowns, having signed a two-year pre-contract with Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes FC in January.

Coach Mosimane believes that the 27-year-old fits the bill after keeping an eye on the central midfielder during their game.

Mosimane waxed lyrical over the player in post-match interview, praising him for his passing and set-piece delivery.

“Medeama are a typical Ghanaian team – technical, build up from the back. They have a player – number five (Malik Akowuah) – a central midfielder – he is the man who makes them play, switches the ball left and right, terrific from set-pieces.

“Their wingers, they play a little bit narrow to create space for the full-backs, a typical Ghanaian team – they play, they play, they play. We have to make sure we recover the ball as quick as possible because they are ball-players. They don’t kick and fight, they play good football,” Mosimane said.

The Brazilians have been linked with a few players, including Lucky Mohomi and Travis Graham from Free State Stars and Ajax Cape Town respectively, in their search for Zungu’s replacement.
