Medeama Sc midfield dynamo, Malik Akowuah says he is not perturbed about his failure to break into the senior national team but instead delighted to be regularly linked to the team.
The workaholic dreadlock midfielder has been one of the most consistent performers in the Ghana premier league ever since he burst onto the scene with Accra Great Olympics in the 2011 season, before continuing the trend with AshGold the following season.
Akowuah’s name was mooted as one of the players to be included in the dead rubber qualifying game against Rwanda after the minister of youth and sports, Nii Lante Vanderpuye suggested that local players should be given the nod ahead of the foreign based players.
He has again been earmarked this time round as the team will be playing against Egypt in a crucial World Cup qualifier next month, but he says there is no cause for alarm and instead thanked his advocates for constantly linking him to the team.
“I appreciate the calls from Ghanaians but all I can say is that it gives me confidence as a player to keep up the good work. It means people are monitoring my progress and I believe if indeed I’m called up I will deliver the goods.”
“Having said that, the honest truth is that not every Ghanaian will have the opportunity of donning the Black Stars jersey, but I take pride in always hearing my name being mentioned when there is an impending Black Stars game.”
