Jurgen Klopp dismissed suggestions Liverpool are Europe's premier side by countering that "Manchester City are the best team in the world."
The 2019 Champions League winners begin the defence of their crown against Napoli at Stadio San Paolo on Tuesday evening and are targeted as the ones to beat having made back-to-back appearances in the final of the tournament.

Klopp was quizzed by Italian media on Liverpool being labelled the continent's finest team, but pointed to Pep Guardiola's domestic treble holders as the ultimate opponents.
"We cannot be the best team in Europe, because Man City are the best team in the world," he said.
"That's the same planet, I think."
Liverpool ceded the Premier League title to City by a point last season, but are the division's early pacesetters in 2019-20 -- five clear of Guardiola's charges, who are second.
Meanwhile, Klopp clarified that his agent Marc Kosicke was joking when he told German website SPOX that the 52-year-old has not agreed a contract extension at Anfield due to the weather conditions
"It was German humour and nobody got it," the Liverpool manager said, bemused that the story had been taken seriously and run around the world.
"The weather is never the reason for me to chose a country. It is not a reason for me to leave a country. There is nothing in that story."
