Man United take up option to extend Luke Shaw deal to 2019 - sources

Shaka Hislop says Jose Mourinho should stop complaining about the weather and be happy with United's win at Southampton.

Manchester United have taken up an option to extend Luke Shaw's contract for a further year, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Shaw is one of a number of players at Old Trafford whose contracts are due to expire next summer but United hold an option on to extend them by a further year.

Sources have told ESPN FC that the option in the England international's contract has been taken up by United to extend it until the summer of 2019.

Shaw initially joined United on a four-year deal from Southampton in the summer of 2014, with the club having the option in his initial contract.

Luke Shaw has made just one appearance for Manchester United this season.

The left-back has made just one appearance for United this season, coming off the bench in last week's Carabao Cup win over Burton Albion, as he continues to work his way back to fitness after ankle surgery in the summer.

Shaw has seen his progress at Old Trafford hampered by injuries and was linked with a possible move away this summer, but it appears his future lies at United after they exercised the option to extend his contract.

United boss Jose Mourinho said last week that Shaw had to work hard to improve and try and win back his place back in the team, but that he will get his chance to impress as the club battle for honours on four fronts.
