Manchester United's assistant manager Rui Faria mimicked the club's boss Jose Mourinho in sarcastically praising referee Mark Clattenburg's performance following their 0-0 draw at home to Burnley on Saturday.

Mourinho was absent from his press conference after the game after being sent to the stands for comments he apparentlymade to Clattenburg in the tunnel at half time - Jose's anger seems to have stemmed from his side not being awardeda first half penalty.

Faria echoedwhat his long-term colleague has consistentlysaid before in these kind ofsituations, bypraising the referee for a 'fantastic' game.

According to theDaily Mail, Faria spoke sarcastically of the referee's display, including his decision to send off Ander Herrera for a second bookable offence after the Spaniard slipped into a challenge: "I just want to say fantastic work from the referee, I will not say more than this."

Faria was also asked about his opinion on Mourinho being sent to the stands at Old Trafford, to which the Portuguese assistant said: "To be fair I don't know and I don't think it's very important.

"What is important is what the referee will write in his report.Apart from that, I can't give you more details. It happened with them."

Despite the result, Faria insisted that both he and Mourinho appreciated the players efforts, but believed that there will be better days to come for their multi-million-pound side.

"For sure Jose is happy," the 41-year-old continued.

"I am not here to say we are very happy with players' performances if that wasn't the feeling from all of this.

"We tried and we created many chances, their goalkeeper was the best player on the pitch. Things didn't happen, I believe better days will come."
