Man Utd Defender Could Face Months on the Sidelines Following Knee Ligament Injury

Things have just gone from bad to worse for Manchester United.


Centre-back Eric Bailly looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury against Chelsea on Sunday - in a game which saw somewoeful defending from United, they will be devastated by such a blow to arguably their best defender this season.

Jose Mourinho's return to Stamford Bridge was soured by a 4-0 result, and the former Chelsea boss may be in for even more heartbreak after he learns the trueextent of the Ivorian's injury.


Bailly was taken off in the 52nd minute and replaced by Marcos Rojo after going down in pain.

Speaking after the game, the manager confirmed that it was a knee ligament injury.


"He is injured and I am afraid it is a bad injury," Mourinho toldSky Sports."It is in his knee, the ligament area. He feels it is really bad."

As mentioned,Bailly has shown good form since joining United, and having him out for an extended period will come as a huge blow for the Red Devils.


Phil Jones is already out with a similar problem, while Chris Smalling only just recovered from a muscle injury. Team captain Wayne Rooney did not make the trip to London as a result of his own muscular issues.
