Man Utd, Liverpool alerted as Bayern Munich plan to meet Gelson Martins buyout clause

Published on: 14 January 2018

Bayern Munich are making a first move for Sporting CP winger Gelson Martins.

A target for the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, Martins actually favours a move to the Premier League should he leave Sporting.

However, O Jogo says Bayern have opened talks with Sporting about meeting the winger's €60m buyout clause. Interestingly, Sporting have the option to block the transfer by paying the player a €1.5m penalty clause.

Gelson has stated his preference is either England or Spain for when he departs Sporting and Bayern's approach is expected to flush out interest from the Premier League.

Much could depend on the future of Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez, with Martins a potential alternative for those clubs that miss out on the Chilean.
