Man Utd Star Risks Red Devils' Wrath by Naming Chelsea Stalwart Among His Three Idols Growing Up

Published on: 05 December 2016

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has opened up on who his idols in the game are, and the club's fans may be disappointed to learn that a Chelsea legend is among them.

Jones, who moved to United from Blackburn back in 2011, has seen his fair share of injury as a Red Devil, and made his first start for the club this seasonin a win against Swansea at the start of November, having missed almost a year.

Sir Alex Ferguson was the one who signed the player five years ago, and tipped him to become an Old Trafford great, also likening him to club legend Duncan Edwards.

Jones has also been compared to a young John Terry, and has gone on to reveal that the Chelsea captainwas one of his idols while he was growing up. Fortunately, he also named former United defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

"The three I grew up watching were Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry," he replied when asked who he most looked up to as a youth (Metro).

"It was the desire to defend and put their bodies on the line and doing what they can for the team."

This season isn't going so well for Jones and United, and after dropping yet another set of points in a 1-1 draw against Everton on Sunday, the 24-year-old admitted that it was becoming a trend at the club.

Speaking to theManchester United website, he said: 'We are losing too many points now. It's becoming a common trend, and we need to put that right quick.

'I can think of four or five games now where we have dominated but not managed to win. It's happened again and I'm gutted.'

The Red Devilswill face Zorya in Europa League competition this week, before welcoming Tottenham to their home ground in the Premier League on the weekend.
