Southampton took the lead following another defensive mix up from City, before Kelechi Iheanacho improved his impressive goal tally to rescue a point for the hosts.

Manchester City and Southampton both went into game following defeats in Europe during the week. City were on the end of a thumping at the Nou Camp while Southampton were downed at Inter Milan.

There was a tepid and slowstart to the game from both sides and both looked fairly reserved in the opening exchanges, and so it was no surprise that it took a mistake for the game to burst into life.

Another City howler occurred in the centre of defence, this time John Stones being at fault. Stones played a blind back pass that was too short for Claudio Bravo. The ball also evadedVincent Kompany who had stepped up at the wrong moment.

This fell perfectly for Nathan Redmond who rounded Bravo and comfortably scored to give the Saints the lead.

John Stones was keen to make up for his error and thought he had drawn City level until the offside flag was incorrectly raised.

As the half closed out, the fans were becoming discontent and players such as Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling were seemingly oblivious. Guardiola changed the system at the break by bringing on Kelechi Iheanacho for Kevin De Bruyne.

This decision was fully justified as City got a leveller after the break. A raking ball from Fernandinhofound Leroy Sane, who then supplied Iheanacho who found the back of the net.

How to score goals: attack space and when ball goes in the area you gamble on you'll have an easy chance. Perfect example from Iheanacho.

As the clock ticked down, City began to turn the screw and Ilkay Gundogan forced a good save from Fraser Forster and Sergio Aguero went close with a shot that flashed past the post.

Southamptonhowever were not letting City have it all their own way, and went close through Charlie Austin who tested Bravo.

City had one last push in added time but were unable to find the goal that would have given them the win, although they return to the top of the Premier League.

Southampton XI vs. Manchester City: Forster; Martina, Van Dijk, Fonte, McQueen; Clasie, Romeu; Davis, Tadić, Redmond; Austin.
