Manchester United have snatched up highly-rated young coachKieran McKenna from Tottenham Hotspur, according to theDaily Mail.

The 30-year-old, who coached Spurs' Under-18 side, comes in as a replacement forPaul McGuinness, who left the Red Devils in February.

He started out as aa midfielder with Enniskillen Town in Northern Ireland, but was forced to quit playing after joining Tottenham due to a hip injury.

Following his premature retirement,Spurs legend Clive Allen said: You wouldn't go far wrong if you had 11 of the Kieran McKenna-type in your team.

Finding comfort in coaching, McKenna has made a name for himself. He led Spurs' Under-18 side to the semi-final of the FA Youth Cup last year, but couldn't get past Chelsea, despite beating the Blues youngsters 2-0 in the first leg at White Hart Lane. Chelsea would win the second leg 5-2.

Speaking after the match, the young coach explained that winning the cup was never a priority, but that his job was to look for 'standout individuals' who would fit in Mauricio Pochettino's system in the first team.

McKenna began working with United's youngsters at Carrington on Thursday, but will begin working in an official capacity on Monday. The Red Devils are continuing the work on their academy, hoping to restore the perpetual flow of youth into the senior side.

New manager Jose Mourinho, quite strangely, wants the club to produce more players in the mold of Marcus Rashford, who scored the injury-time winner against Hull City on Saturday.

Meanwhile,United's Under-18s beat Everton 5-1 on the weekend, as Angel Gomes came off the bench to score a hat-trick.
