Manchester United's Attacking Woes Revealed With One Shocking Statistic

Published on: 19 November 2016

Scoring goals wasn't foreseen to be a problem for Manchester United at the beginning of the season.

With the signings of world class talent including Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, United were supposed to be one of the most feared teams in the Premier League this season. On top of those stars they also have the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford as well as Wayne Rooney, who is the club's second highest goalscorer ever.

The fact that they have been tame for periods of the season has come as a shock given the obvious talent at the club's disposal.

Just done the math - 74 shots to their opponents' 19 in Man United's last three home league games. Aggregate score: 2-2.

United have now failed to beat Arsenal, Burnley and Stoke in their past three home league games, and their misery has been compoundedeven more so by the fact that they have one of the poorest conversion rates in the league in recent games, scoring just two goals from 74 shots during those games.

Their opponents, on the other hand, have fared better in front of goal, scoring the same amount from only 19 efforts.

Ibrahimovic was particularly wasteful in United's 0-0 draw with Burnley, while Rooney has been out of favour and therefore unable to contribute, while Marcus Rashford started up front against Arsenal on Saturday but looked short of his best.

There's no doubting Jose Mourinho is one of the finest coaches around in terms of defensive solidity, but his side have looked lacklustre going forward in recent times with the exception of the 3-1 victory over Swansea, during which both Ibrahimovic and Pogba proved their worth with decent goals.
