Manuel Neuer has issued a stern warning to his Bayern Munich teammates after the Bundesliga champions were surprisingly held by Cologne at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Anthony Modeste's second half strike spelled the end of Bayern's 100% start in the Bundesliga under Carlo Ancelotti this season, cancelling out Joshua Kimmich's opener.

Neuer was critical of his teammates, claiming that they have a tendency of being 'too sure of themselves' and has warned that that's exactly the kind of attitude that will lead to further slip-ups.

"You must not be too sure [of yourself] when one team is the German champions playing at 95 per cent against an opponent waiting only for their chance," he told reporters.

"We need to make the most of such dominance. We have not kept up the pace in the second half and the opponent shows just what is possible through counter-attacks.

Following the result, Ancelotti said:"We controlled the game in the first half and deservedly took the lead. But Cologne played much better in the second half.

"We should have won the game, but Cologne also had their chances.Of course we are disappointed, but we shouldn't worry. We must not forget our great start to the season. We'll
go again after the international break."
