Marwan Osei Tutu: The unknown 'security man' in Ghana football

Published on: 07 April 2020

Marwan Osei Tutu to the surprise of many was named a member of the International Relations Committee headed by Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

On 14th December 2019, the GFA decided to add a new committee to its ranks, the International Relations Committee consisting of seven members.

Kurt Okraku became its chairman and Frederick Acheampong, a member of the Executive council took the Vice Chairman role.

Other prominent members members in the team were Stephen Appiah and Samuel Osei Kuffour, two outstanding former players of the Black Stars with huge experience and contacts abroad.

The list contained some well known names in Ghana football but there was an odd one , the seventh name on the list, Marwan A.F. Osei Tutu. There were some lingering questions about Marwan after the list was released. Who is he? Does he have any experience in football administration?

Footballghana.com understands that he is a close friend of Abdul Baba Rahman, the Black Stars left back who currently plays Real Mallorca in Spain.

Marwan currently works as a security man in the United Kingdom (UK).

One of the roles of the recently formed committee is to "advise the GFA on its commitments to international bodies to which the GFA is affiliated". This is a duty that requires some form of knowledge and experience in football administration to efficiently carry out.

Unfortunately, Marwan A. F Osei Tutu does not have any form of knowledge or experience to perform the task, footballghana.com understands.

It is also unknown if he has any scouting experience or a good eye for hidden gems outside the country as the main objective of the International Relations Committee is to "ensure that the GFA obtains a database of all persons of Ghanaian descent excelling in all aspect of football (players, coaches, match officials, administrators, medical officers, etc) outside Ghana."

Marwan will be one of the members under the microscope of the newly formed committee as they have a huge task ahead of them to find the next great set of talents to ensure the improved quality in Ghana football.
