Former coach of Asante Kotoko Maxwell Konadu has jumped to the defence of embattled striker Songne Yacouba over his goal drought.

The 26-year old is on a goal drought as he has failed to score in seven competitive games for the Porcupine Warriors.

The Burkinabe missed a lot of chances in Wednesday’s CAF Confederation Cup game against ZESCO United despite registering two assists on match day - Having registered five assists in the Confederation Cup campaign.

His recent form has been remarkable concerning his creativity in the final third of the pitch but lack of goals seems to be putting him under intense pressure.

In an interview with Kumasi based radio station, Oyerepa FM, Maxwell Konadu stated that the fans shouldn’t put pressure on their talisman but instead, he should be motivated and appreciated.

“Please don't put pressure on Songne Yacouba, he will rise to the occasion. We shouldn’t forget he assisted 2 goals and he needs a pat at the back for that so he realises his contributions are very much appreciated.”

He added that Yacouba should be appreciated for his contribution to the team despite his profligacy.

“We shouldn't vilify him for not scoring either than that it will affect his confidence which will bring him to zero. He needs to be encouraged.”
