Medeama CEO hits out against fans for protesting against coach
James Essilfie - Medeama CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of Medeama SC, Mr. James Essilfie, has condemned the actions of a section of the club's fans who on Friday trooped to the Tarkwa T&A Park to disrupt a training session and express their displeasure towards coach Prince Owusu.

Their protest came after the club were booted out of the CAF Confederation Cup after Losing 1-0 to MO Bejaia in Algeria.

The supporters prevented the head coach from entering the training pitch in a show of disapproval of the coach’s continual stay at the club despite them exiting the Confed Cup.

Speaking in an interview on Ahomka Radio UK, Mr. James Essilfie said the people who were demonstrating against Prince Owusu were “not true supporters of the club but just ordinary fans”.

“Supporters support the club financially, spiritually and in other capacities and in view of that, we classify them also as shareholders of the club and by so doing they can have a say and contribute towards the development of the club. But in our scenario, it is quite different. I call them football fans because they do not contribute anything to the club. They just pay ticket fares, watch games and go home”.

He stated that hiring and firing of staff of the club is a management decision and at the moment his outfit is pleased with the output of the coach.

“The fans do not have the right to prevent the coach from training with the players. It is not legitimate and I will not side with them on this. We have a crucial game against Dwarfs this weekend so I find it quite disturbing that the fans will pull off something like this. I don’t know if this was engineered or orchestrated by a section of people who are seeking to divide the attention of the club but the management and the board are very happy with coach Prince notwithstanding that we have been eliminated in Africa and recent results in the domestic league have not been that good.

“The coach is doing well because he didn’t come on time and he didn’t start preseason with the players as well so we need to give him more time and I believe with time Prince will do well”.
