Medical Specialist Dr. Prince Pamboe worried over state of player health in the Ghana Premier League

Published on: 17 June 2017

Ghana Football Association medical team member Dr. Prince Pamboe says the medical state in Africa and Ghana is very poor because of lack of education and poverty.

According to the respected medical practitioner clubs employ quack physicians and sometimes family members to serve as the medical team.

Mr. Pamboe who was speaking on the Legends Show on GHOne was devastated by the conduct of some of the clubs insisting they have to employ certified physicians.

“Medical condition in Africa is bad and terrible. Here in Ghana we are not prepared (for any eventuality),” he said.

“The gentlemen you see carrying the pack of ice are either the nephews of the club owners or friends of the management.

“We are not prepared and it all boils down to poor player education, zero consciousness and poverty”, he added.

Last week Africa lost one of its key players abroad, Chiek Tiote of Ivory Coast who died after collapsing at training in China.

Dr. Pamboe has been a huge advocate for the right measures to be followed. He also organizes seminars on the right things to be done by clubs in terms of player health.
