Mesut Ozil Set to Sign New Arsenal Deal as Lengthy Contract Talks Near End

Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil is set to sign a new contract with the north London club as negotiations over a new deal draw to an end.

The Gunners are keen to keep hold of Ozil, who has been one of their star performers over the past two seasons following an indifferent debut season at the club.

According to theDaily Mirror, Ozil is set to sign a new £160k-a-week deal with the Emirates club, set to keep him in London for another five years.

Talks are said to have been ongoing for some time now, but a club source has reportedly told the Mirror "we are getting closer" in regards to a new contract for the 28-year-old.

The Germany international has been in stellar form this season, scoring three Premier League goals and adding an assist in nine matches so far, while he has also bagged four goals and two assists during Arsenal's Champions League campaign.

Ozil has been linked with a return to former club Real Madrid but such a move seems unlikely given he is now settled in London, with the summer signing of Germany international Shkodran Mustafi helping Arsenal's case in persuading Ozil to sign fresh terms.

Ahead of the potential contract signing, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger praised Ozil, citing similarities with Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp.

There are similarities with Bergkamp. I think he can become a legend - if he commits," Wenger revealed.

Dennis Bergkamp committed for a long period, played until he was 38.

"I wish we have ten more years of Ozil. That depends. To become a legend at the club you need to stay for a long time. If you stay two years, you would not be a legend.

We work on it (the contract), we work on it."
