“Kucka trained with us and had no problems, so he’s ready. Kurtic hasn’t had a break this season and so it’s normal that his performances might dip. He’s has a lot of quality and we’re counting on him, as well as Hernani and the others. Players like him and Kucka, between the league and international football, have played as much as most players do in a normal year.”

“We’re working and will continue to work a lot. What people forget is that, to play a certain type of football, you need to factor in the quality of our players. We have good players, who I don’t want to overexert just to play a certain style of football. Our attackers have their own characteristics and we need to try to benefit from them. It’s difficult to play between the lines with players like Gervinho and Karamoh because they have their own skills. I need to set my players up so they can best express their own qualities. I don’t like nor do I need to pass the message of ‘Liverani’s football’. Liverani’s football adapts to the players.”

“Each team has players that they don’t want to lose. This comes from a player’s performances in training and in games. There are players that show they are important, and it’s normal for a coach to assess what he sees. Then there’s the tactical, technical and personality aspect. Looking at our team – both for the choices we have and for the absentees – I’ve been able to give a bit of continuity to ten of the players, and this shows how difficult this job is.”

“Points are important wherever, doesn’t matter if it’s Serie A or Serie B, so I wouldn’t have settled for a draw at San Siro. Especially now. AC Milan aren’t on the same level as Parma, while Cagliari are fighting with us to be the ‘best of the rest’. They have a good squad and have a few players back now. One point separates us at the moment, we can steal a march, but then again so can they. We want to win and keep this run of results going.”

“Of course you need to overcome the opposition’s press; no team can keep it up for 90 minutes. We have the players to make our press count, especially the three attackers. We want to increase the amount of time that we press and get as much from it as possible. We don’t quite have the means to play this type of football yet. The team is developing in this regard, they’re just missing the final few steps.”

“I’m not worried that neither Inglese nor Cornelius has scored. Andreas has had chances, for example against Genoa. We need to pick them out a bit more and get them into positions to score. Both Roberto and Cornelius will have their opportunities because the team will create more and more and they can finish.”

“We’re often in touch with the President. I think that a coach needs to tailor his tactics to suit his players so they can thrive.”
