The MLS has rescinded the fine and one-game suspension handed to Ghanaian fullback, Harrison Afful after he received a red card.
The diminutive player is now eligible to play in Saturday’s home against Orlando City FC.
Afful was shown a straight red in the 74 th minute last Saturday night for a challenge on D.C. United’s Marcelo Sarvas during a 1-1 draw.
Replays clearly showed the fullback drove through the ball and never made contact with the United midfielder, who embellished the collision and drew the foul.
The 10-man Crew ended up surrendering a late goal to drop two critical points in the standings.
Coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter sounded confident Monday morning the club would win its appeal.
A three-person review panel made up of representatives from the U.S. Soccer Federation, the Canadian Soccer Association and the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) unanimously agreed with the Crew’s thinking.
Crew has also successfully appealed two other red cards this season -- Conor Casey on June 1 and Tyson Wahl (mistaken identity) on April 16.
