Naldo urges Schalke to respond

Published on: 04 September 2018

Veteran Brazilian defender Naldo is confident that he and his Schalke team-mates can turn things around after losing their opening two Bundesliga games of the new season.

The 35-year-old centre-back played in both the 2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg and the 2-0 loss at home to Hertha Berlin, as last season's Bundesliga runners-up made an unexpectedly poor start to the new campaign.

We now have to work and be better in two weeks' time.

However, former Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg stopper Naldo expects a major reaction to be shown following the international break, with Die Konigsblauen facing a trip to Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday 15th September.

He told the club's official website: "We need to carry on working to get back on track. I'm positive that we'll be able to do it.

"We are a team that thinks positively and that can get through difficult times. The most important thing is to stay together.

"We imagined things very differently - that we win in Wolfsburg and also at home to Berlin. We now have to work and be better in two weeks' time.

"We need the self-confidence to go on to the pitch at Gladbach in upbeat mood and play to our strengths. We have to play intelligently and get something from the game."

Schalke are one of three teams to have lost both of their opening two games of the new season, with both Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen also still searching for their first point.

Die Konigsblauen are now priced at 10/1 to finish top of the Bundesliga if Bayern Munich were omitted, with RB Leipzig available at 6/1 and Borussia Dortmund 4/5.
