Nana Poku scores twice to send Maqassa top of the Egyptian league

Ghana striker Nana Poku scored twice, including a last minute winning goal, to earn Maqassa a 2-1 victory over Petrojet in the Egyptian League on Friday.

Poku's brace sent the surprise package Maqasa to the top of the Egyptian Premier League table on Friday.

Mostafa Shebeita put Petrojet ahead on the quarter hour mark when his innocuous free kick went past the keeper, who should have done better after he was slow to react.

But Maqassa, managed by promising coach Ihab Galal who was repeatedly linked with Cairo giants Zamalek, pushed relentlessly for an equaliser and wasted a slew of goal-scoring chances.

Their pressure finally paid off when Poku tapped in into an empty net after a free kick was parried into his path on 36 minutes.

He gave Maqassa a thoroughly deserved win in stoppage time when he glanced a header into the top corner following a pinpoint cross from the left.

Maqassa, who lost once and won nine times in their opening 10 matches of the season, overtook defending champions Ahly with 27 points, one ahead of the Red Devils who briefly went top with a 3-0 win over El-Entag El-Harby on Wednesday.
