Napoli Eye Move for Veteran Free Agent Miroslav Klose But Face Chinese Competition

Veteran German striker Miroslav Klose is reportedly a target for Napoli after summer signing Arkadiusz Milik, bought to replace the departed Gonzalo Higuain, suffered a knee injury that may keep him sidelined for several months.

Klose has been a free agent since leaving Lazio at the end of last season and various reports from Corriere dello Sport have placed the 38-year-old veteran on Napoli's radar as a short-term solution until the transfer market re-opens in January.

Former Napoli and Lazio coach Edy Reja, who worked with Klose at the latter, has backed the idea.

"I think Miroslav can do even important things, despite his age he can give a lot in Serie A," Reja told Naples-based Radio Kiss Kiss.

"He has so much experience that can be used by the team," Reja added.

"A lot depends on his physical condition: if in recent weeks he has trained, he will immediately make a contribution. In our league someone like him can always make a difference with quality and experience."

Klose, Germany's leading goalscorer of all time, scored 55 Serie A goals in five seasons with Napoli, while he was prolific at Werder Bremen earlier in his career.

However, Napoli are likely to have to overcome significant competition from China if they are to have any chance of capturing the striker. At least, that's the implication after a recent revelation that Klose rejected an offer from Deportivo La Coruna last month.

Deportivo opted for ex-Liverpool forward Ryan Babel after Deportivo director Richard Barral told Radio Marca in Spain, "It's not just a question of money. We have spoken with him, but he is thinkng about Asia and China."
