Accra Hearts of Oak has defeated Karela United 1-0 to ensure they stretch the lead at the top of the Premier B standings of the Normalization Committee (NC) Special competition.
The Phobians hosted the Anyinase based side at the Accra Sports Stadium this afternoon in a table topping clash in what was described as one of the most crucial matches of the competition.
Prior to the fixture, just a single point separated the leaders, Hearts and second placed Karela United. With just two matches to the end of the preliminary phase of the Special Competition, both sides were hoping to pick up maximum points to cement their chances of qualifying out of their division.
After 90 minutes of high intensity football however, it is the Rainbow boys that came out on top as they posted a 1-0 result over their opponent. Defender Christopher Bonney scored the only goals of the match on the 74th minute via a penalty kick.
The win means Hearts of Oak now sits comfortably at the top of the standings with 25 points and 4 points ahead of Karela who maintain their second position. It appears Kim Grant’s men are well on course to finishing top of the division going into the final two matches.
Their next match will be against Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 19, 2019.
