Newcastle United are moving for Southampton fullback Matt Targett.
The Sun says Toon have made a shock loan approach for Targett – in case they fail to sign Chelsea's Kenedy.
The Toon have sounded out the Saints about the availability of Targett, 21, who is yet to feature this season.
But the England Under-21 international is just a back-up option at this stage as Rafa Benitez has not given up hope of landing Kenedy.
Kenedy's loan departure depends on Chelsea bringing in reinforcements today.
