Neymar Reportedly at Risk of Being Dropped By Barcelona Following Recent Goal Drought

Published on: 07 December 2016

Barcelona superstar Neymar, recently valued at a world leading €250m by France Football magazine, is apparently in danger of being dropped after his recent goal drought.

The Brazilian Ballon d'Or contender was rested and left out of the squad as Barça thrashed Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night. He is suspended for the Osasuna clash this weekend but may not automatically regain his place afterwards.

According to a report by Diario Gol, it is a lack of goals and the form of Arda Turan following his hat-trick against Gladbach that is putting Neymar at risk of being benched.

The 24-year-old, who netted a career high 31 times in all competitions last season, has failed to find the net in any of his last eight games - not since 19th October against Manchester City.

He has managed five assists during that time. But while Luis Enrique is said not to usually allow number of goals to govern his selection decisions, the boss is under pressure to make positive changes after a poor recent run of domestic form.

As such, Neymar ahead of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, could be the member of the esteemed 'MSN' who is sacrificed to bring Turan into the line-up on a longer term basis.

Barça have won just four of their last eight league outings and have fallen six points behind Real Madrid in the title race. A dramatic late equaliser from Sergio Ramos in last weekend's Clásico was a cruel blow to a team which thought it had done enough to win.
