NFF set to name Augustine Eguavoen's successor

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to appoint a new head coach for the Super Eagles after Augustine Eguavoen stepped down from the position.

Eguavoen failed to qualify Nigeria to the 2022 FIFA World Cup after the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, hence the Black Stars sealed qualification on the away goals rule.

Ghana’s qualification denied Nigeria a fourth successive outing at the World Cup finals.

“The Executive Committee mandated its technical and development sub-committee to within 5 days make recommendations to the Executive Committee on coaching crews for the Super Eagles, the CHAN team, the U20 Boys (Flying Eagles) and the U17 Boys (the Golden Eaglets) ahead of upcoming assignments," a communiqué stated after an NFF executive committee meeting headed by NFF president Amaju Pinnick on Tuesday.

“This is to ensure preparations for the next qualifying tournaments and championships commence in earnest.”

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18.
