Former Super Eagles left back Taye Taiwo hailed the superlative performance of Nigeria's Golden Eaglets in their Round of 16 game against Australia.

Emmanuel Amuneke's team romped to a 6-0 win over the Aussies to set up a quarter-final clash against three-time champions Brazil who themselves defeated New Zealand 1-0.

Taiwo, who plays for HJK Helsinki of Finland spoke briefly to Completesportsnigeria.com on the victory of the Nigeria U17 side. ? "Firstly, I want to say congratulations to the boys. That was emphatic. Very good performance," Taiwo told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"But they must realise that was not the final. Now they'll meet a tougher opponents, and Brazil in the quarter-finals will definitely be a strong test. I hope they defeat the Brazilians too and reach the last four.

"In these players, we have good players for the future. After this World Cup, a lot of interests will be on them but they should really concentrate on the World Cup first. Congratulations to all Nigerians," the former U20 World Cup star concluded.

Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick to take his haul to seven in Chile 2015 while Kelechi Nwakali (penalty), Edidiong Effiong and Samuel Chukwueze were Nigeria's other scorers in the emphatic 6-0 victory.
