Nii Lantey Vanderpuije snubs ceremonial handshake with Black Stars before Rwanda clash

Published on: 03 September 2016

Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuije became the first Minister of Youth and Sports to avoid the pre-match activities and ceremonial handshake for the Black Stars AFCON 2017 qualifier against Rwanda at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Although, the Minister was present at the slowly decaying national stadium, he chose not to climb down to the pitch for the ceremonial handshake with the players.

He remained seated in the VVIP section of the national stadium leaving the GFA president, Kwasi Nyantakyi and other officials to greet the players and their Rwandan counterparts.

Mr Vanderpuije's snub for the team marks the latest in the series of well-publicised snubs to the Black Stars.

He earlier refused to foot the bill for players of the national team for the match and later reduced their winning-bonuses to US$ 2,500.
