No need to appoint an expatriate coach - Malik Jabir tells Asante Kotoko

Former Asante Kotoko head coach, Malik Jabir believes it will be a useless decision to appoint an expatriate coach.

The Ghana Premier League side are in still search for a substantive coach following the departure of Maxwell Konadu in December 2020.

With Johnson Smith and Abdul Gazelle in charge of the club on the interim, the local media have reported that the Porcupine Warriors are on the verge of appointing a Portuguese manager, Mariano Bareto as the new manager of the club.

But according to Malik, it will be a mess for the club to appoint an expatriate gaffer.

"Ghana has just taken the step to put a stop to hiring this same white coach who rarely wins the club any trophy," said the former Black Stars skipper.

"These coaches just under one year take you to court, take their monies and bring problems to the team.

"When Maxwell Konadu was sacked, you gave the job to Johnson Smith who steered the team on to the path of winning together with Abdul Gazelle as his head coach.

"Even with that, when the [GFA] announced Abdul Gazalle was made head, it resulted in a dip in their performance, losing and drawing and now you want to bring an expatriate to push Johnson and Gazalle aside?

"All within first round of a league, that is incredible. Anyone that knows nothing about the team will attempt doing it.

"If Asante Kotoko bring in a white coach again on top of all these mess, it will be unthinkable for me," he told Kumasi FM.
