Official: President Cup 2017 launched

The 2017 President Cup has been officially launched by the Ghana League Clubs Association at the ANFD offices in East Legon.

The Cup match which is played annually to honour Ghana’s Republic Day celebrations will see two of the country’s most glamorous Club’s Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko play each other on July 2nd at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Trophy for the competition was unveiled on Thursday and present at the occasion was the President of GHALCA, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo who used the opportunity to thank both club’s for honoring the challenge.

“There will be no befitting fixture other than Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko to usher in our new President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the hot seat and we are happy the clubs have agreed to play.

“I want to thank our sponsors for coming board to support this program and I want to assure them that they will not regret been a part of GHALCA.”

Government’s representative at the event was the deputy Sports Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide who reiterated government will give it utmost support to ensure a successful game.

“This is a crucial match for us, because I want to look at whether it will be a revenge or a repeat. At the level of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority we shall do all within our powers to ensure that we have a successful program. We thank all our sponsors and all who will be associated with this endeavor in different ways.”

The two Clubs will be meeting for the third time this season after Accra Hearts of Oak twice defeated Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League and the Ghana @60 game.
