Owner of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, has dismissed reports that he is an Accra Hearts of Oak fan despite steering the helm of affairs of their bitterest rivals.
There has been widespread speculations that the Paramount Chief of the Ashanti Kingdom has been a long time admirer of Accra Hearts of Oak with many putting the blame for Kotoko's downward spiral at his doorstep.
Some section of the Kotoko fans has accused Otumfuo of neglecting the club because of his affection for the Accra based club.
However, the King of Ashantis cleared those rumours insisting he has never been a big football fan until his ascension of the Ashanti throne.
“I know nothing about football if not because of the throne i have no knowledge in football,” he said after receiving the players and management team of the club at his palace on Wednesday.
“Before becoming the King of the Ashanti, people have been saying that i’m a supporter of Hearts of Oak, i don’t understand the game, i was living in London how can i support Hearts. If someone is playing number 7 on the field i don’t know what it is.”
Kotoko endured a torrid season but manage to win the MTN FA Cup after beating Accra Hearts of Oak 3-1 in the finals in Tamale.
The success in the MTN FA Cup means the club will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederations Cup next season with the full backing of their bankroller, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
