Pogba removes Heineken beer bottle during Euro 2020 press conference

Published on: 16 June 2021

France's top midfielder Paul Pogba has joined Cristiano Ronaldo in making headlines for removing items, including drinks, placed in front of them at a news conference at the ongoing Euro 2020 competition.

Pogba, who practices Islam, was irritated by the sight of the Heineken beer bottle put in front of him and instantly removed it.

Pogba isn't the first Muslim player to express a desire not to be associated with anything liquor or alcoholic, as cricketers Moeen Ali and Rashid Khan have previously refused to attend their teammates' celebrations when champagne is involved, and have openly denied sporting alcoholic brands on their playing shirts.

Pogba has already voiced his anti-alcohol views and has openly said that he does not consume alcohol in any manner.

It remains to be seen whether Heineken will respond to Pogba’s removal of their product from his post-match press conference.

Ronaldo, one of the greatest footballers of all time, is super selective about his diet and fitness routine.
