Coach Cesare Prandelli speaks ahead of the Coppa Italia Round of 16 tie against Inter, that will take place January 13 2021 at 15CET at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
ON THE CURRENT SITUATION - "Since my arrival I tried to pass on to my players what I thought and saw. Many have said we should be in a different part of the table, but we've been where we are for a while. Now we're realising we need to be ugly and pragmatic. This is a solid base to start off from. We must play every match like it's the decisive one on the final matchday of the season. Consistency comes from performances. It means showing what we work on on a daily basis."
ON THE COPPA ITALIA & INTER - "We want to do well in the Coppa Italia. Whoever will play will try their best to cause trouble against a great side like Inter. We need to be very careful at the back against Inter, but when in possession we must give them trouble - we can do it. The Coppa Italia has games that can be crucial for a season, especially from the Round of 16 onwards. Inter are amongst the three favourites to win Serie A. Lukaku is a player that has many qualities, he is difficult to mark and when he has space he is is great."
ON THE INDIVIDUALS - "We still need to understand who is available and who isn't. The goal against Cagliari shows how being fast on the break is crucial in football. Then the quality of Callejon is nothing new. Vlahovic did a very good movement to finish the move. Vlahovic is improving because he is very motivated and he is working well with the staff - Renato Buso is working with him and doing a great job, like everyone in my staff. On Vlahovic, I only remember Adriano as good as Dusan at the same age. But we must stay balanced in our judgement - a few weeks ago it was very different. Let's give time to these youngsters. Terracciano will start. He is a very good keeper. We had to change a few things in midfield to exploit Callejon's qualities - but if he carries on like this it's worth it. Castrovilli can play in various positions, but now he must improve in his knowledge of the midfield - understanding how to play in the different positions. Kouame is doing well in training - he is a professional. He needs to improve on his first touch and on being a more clinical finish, and he is working on this."
