Premier League Duo on Red Alert After Dortmund Reportedly Agree to Sell Star Striker Aubameyang

Published on: 07 October 2016

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready to leave Borussia Dortmund - and Chelsea and Manchester City are set to battle it out for his signature, according to the Daily Mirror.

The paper claims that Dortmund are willing to cash in on their star striker after speculation linked Aubameyang with a move away from the Westfalonstadion throughout the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old was the subject of interest from Manchester City, as well as Champions League holders Real Madrid and Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain, but no concrete offer was forthcoming from any party and ensured that Aubameyang would remain in the Bundesliga.

On Wednesday, Aubameyang confirmed that his father had held talks with representatives from Manchester City over a possible move to the Etihad, but discussions did not end up leading to the two-time Premier League champions making a bid for his services.

He said: "It's true, there was contact. My father held talks with the club, but in the end there was nothing concrete."

Aubameyang also stated that both Madrid and PSG had been keeping tabs on his availability, and went as far as to seemingly confirm quotes attributed to him over favouring a move to the La Liga giants.

He added: "I was asked in an interview: 'What is the club of your dreams?' I replied: 'Real is the club of my heart and I made a promise to my grandfather to play there one day, I hope it will happen.'

"So it's just a target, I still have time. If they want me, they will come."

Any potential move to Madrid, though, would not take place until 2018 after Los Blancos were handed a transfer ban by FIFA.

Dortmund had already sanctioned the summer sales of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mats Hummels to Manchester United and Germany rivals Bayern Munich respectively, and were hesitant over allowing another of their key personnel to leave in the same time frame.

However, the German club's stance is now alleged to have softened and paves the way for Aubameyang to potentially try his hand at replicating his impressive form in England's top tier.

The Gabon international has plundered 87 goals in just 152 appearances for his current employers - form that has led to him becoming one of the most feared strikers on the continent.
