Premier League Fantasy Football: Who's Hot and Who's Not in Gameweek 8

Published on: 13 October 2016

ThePremier League is back this weekend after the international, and with it as evercomes Fantasy Football.

What changes do you need to make to maximise your points this weekend? Consider the following advice as food for thought...

Goalkeepers

Who's Hot

Hugo Lloris - He wasinjured for a short while, but it's a mystery why the Spurs stopper isn't a more popular fantasy choice when he sits behind the best defence in the Premier League. He kept a clean sheet against Manchester City and will probably do the same against West Brom.

Fraser Forster - Three cleans sheets in a row for Southampton is highly likely to turn into four this weekend when Burnley visit St Mary's.

Who's Not

David de Gea - The Manchester United star simply hasn't offered value for money as far as fantasy goalkeepers have been concerned this season and yet is in nearly half of teams. Chances are, Liverpool will score past him at some point on Monday.

Eldin Jakupovic - Picked by nearly a quarter of fantasy owners, this might be the week to at least bench the Hull goalkeeper. This week's opponents Bournemouth have scored half of their goals for the season in just the last two games.

Defenders

Who's Hot

Jose Holebas - If you're looking for a defender to fill a hole at the cheaper end of the price range, the Watford wing-back has enjoyed a productive season so far. Lots of assist potential.

Matt Targett - Assuming he can shake off a minor knock of his own before Sunday, the left-back is set to start for Southampton ahead of an injured Ryan Bertrand against a very goal-shy Burnley side.

Who's Not

Nathaniel Clyne - An injury doubt, a notable lack of fantasy points all season despite playing as an attacking full-back for the league's joint top scorers, and facing a potentially dangerous Manchester United attack on Monday nightis a bad mix.

Cesar Azpilicueta - There's just something about Chelsea's fragile defence going up against Leicester's pace-filled attack that seems worrying for the former champions.

Midfielders

Who's Hot

Leroy Fer - Football works in funny ways sometimes, and the fact that Swansea have won 3 of their last 4 away league games against Arsenal combined with 'new manager syndrome' makes this goalscoring midfielder seriously worth your consideration.

Jason Puncheon - A cheaper option than less productive Crystal Palace team-mate Andros Townsend, the Eagles winger is up against the worst defence in the Premier League, at home.

Who's Not

Ross Barkley - Although Everon may give Manchester City another strong test, the Toffees' home-grown star has terribly been out of form since scoring on opening day back in August and takes up too much of your precious funds to deserve patience.

Willian - Be aware that the Brazilian winger has been granted compassionate leave by Chelsea this weekend after the death of his mother and so will not be involved.

Forwards

Who's Hot

Marcus Rashford - We already know the teenager is a big game player and there are none bigger than Liverpool. The Reds are weak defensively and he'll be fresh after featuring only sparinglyfor England on international duty.

Romelu Lukaku - Clean sheets have been near impossible to come by for Manchester City this season and their defensive frailty was horribly exposed by Tottenham in their last outing. That means an in-form striker such as Lukaku should give them plenty of problems.

Who's Not

Vincent Janssen - Harry Kane's absence was supposed to be the Dutchman's chance to shine, but he's not been able to do it and Spurs have been relying on goals from others instead. A physical battle against West Brom may not suit him anyway.

Salomon Rondon - Despite solid fantasy production at times this season, the West Brom man can be a little hit and miss. Against Spurs, the league's best defence, expect it to be 'miss'.
