Pressure at Sports ministry is due to limited funds-Former minister Mustapha Ahmed

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Mustapha Ahmed says there is huge pressure to deliver at the ministry but the challenge has been with limited funds.

The dentist who was sports minister in the previous administration outlined the difficulty in getting funds to support the activities of the ministry.

There are over 40 federations at the ministry that need to be funded but according to the former Member of Parliament, it’s difficult to get the funds to run the ministry.

“There is a lot of pressure at the ministry because you don’t get what you want and those out there also wants to deliver to the optimum but you don’t have the power to do that, and that has been the major problem with Sports,” he said.

“When you study the laws that we operate with in parliament, the Minister of Finance does the budget and parliament can’t make an upward adjustment and that is a problem,’’ he added.

“If the select committee had the power to make increment, I think they would have done that. But the law only provides for reduction and that has been a very serious challenge.”

Dr. Mustapha Ahmed was replaced by Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye following a difficult period in charge.

Meanwhile, new sports minister Isaac Asiamah wants to overcome all challenges and dispel the myth of the frequent changes at the ministry.
