PSG manager TUCHEL on facing Liverpool: "You can never be comfy when playing against Klopp"

Published on: 18 September 2018

Just before facing Anfield Road CL opening game, PSG manager, Thomas Tuchel, stated: "We can talk about this for hours and hours about which is the front-runner for this seasons Champions League, but it doesn’t get you any closer to winning. Last week, everyone was talking to us about tomorrow’s match, and what I liked about my team is that we focused on last Friday’s game against Saint-Etienne. It’s no point talking for the sake of it. We have a great group to play, with four very good teams, and we are looking forward to showing what we can do on the pitch.

In my opinion, a game like this, a challenge like this, can never come too early. We get to know each other better when we perform under this kind of pressure, at this level. It’s an exciting challenge. Is it too early? Jurgen has had this side for several years now, and has been able to influence the squad, to get them to play his style, and that’s an advantage. You are never comfortable at Anfield, or against Jurgen Klopp’s teams. We have to play our best with and without the football, and the right balance between attack and defence. But we are looking forward to the challenge.

Obviously Marquinhos can play sweeper position. He is perfect for the No. 6 role. He has the physical and technical skills, and Marqui also has the required mental approach to this position: he is always putting the team first in everything his does. When you see him in the team he makes it is very reassuring. The No. 6 is a key role in modern football, but whether we play with one or two No.6 tomorrow…you will have to wait and see.

Paris have gone very close to making the quarter-finals in the last two years. Sometimes people say a lot of things to try to explain and find reasons for every single little event and everything that happens…but maybe, sometimes you just need a special win to get the confidence to go a long way in a competition. In my opinion, if you want to go a long way, you have to have the experience that you can do something special. It makes our challenge even bigger. Liverpool have won the Champions League five times, they have that experience, this stadium has that experience".
