The Serie A champions made the Frenchman a chief target after selling Paul Pogba to Manchester United, but PSG blocked the transfer.

Speaking toTF1's Telefoot programme(H/T Goal.com), Matuidi revealed that a concrete offer had been made by Juventus, who in turn saw it rejected by the Ligue 1 side.

"There was a concrete demand. Yes, I wanted to go at the time," Matuidi said.

'"The club decided otherwise and I had to accept it. There was a difficult period because I had a wish that has not been fulfilled.

"Nevertheless, Matuidi is looking forward to the season ahead at the Parc des Princes under new boss Unai Emery.

"I'm not unhappy at PSG, far from it.There is a new coach and I know he trusts me."

Unai Emery may have been one of the biggest factors in the club retaining the midfield enforcer. The new boss had made repeated claims of him wanting Matuidi to stay, and has gotten his wish.

"I want the best players with me, with the squad and with PSG. Matuidi is one of them," Emery said during a news conference last month.

"He's a good player, he's part of the identity of the club. He's one of the leaders and capable of being captain. My opinion is clear, I want him to stay.

"The decision [over Matuidi's future] comes down to three elements: the club, the player and the team.

"Me, I want him to stay. He's very important."
