PSL season to continue in world cup format - Dr. Irving Khoza

Published on: 19 June 2020

The Chairman of the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that the remainder of the 2019/2020 football season will be played with the format of the world cup.

According to the renowned football administrator, the PSL will most likely resume in a "world cup" format, with the teams completing the remaining games in one province.

The campaign in the country has been on hold since March as a precautionary measure against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.

Following several deliberations, the PSL secured permission from the South African government to allow clubs to return to training last week ahead of the resumption of the football season.

Now finalizing a restart date, Dr. Irving Khoza has noted that teams will travel to one province in the country to complete the remaining matches in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

This means that all remaining matches will be played at neutral venues with no home advantage to any team.
