Pundit Alan Shearer Incurs Wrath of Furious Chelsea Fans After Comparing Dele Alli to Blues Legend

Published on: 15 October 2016

There is no doubting Dele Alli is something of a promising footballer.

Last season he bagged 10 Premier League goals in his debut top flight season, and after a slow start this campaign, he's now up to three strikes after his equaliser against West Brom on Saturday.

"If he improves his finishing in the next few years, we could be talking about him in the same breath as Frank Lampard" - @alanshearer pic.twitter.com/S2xaRQTkfW

Having dug Spurs out of a hole with his last gasp equaliser, Alli came in for praise from Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer on Saturday, who claimed the former MK Dons midfielder could be mentioned "in the same breath as Frank Lampard", should he improve his finishing.

Lampard reached double figures in all but three of his seasons with Chelsea, scoring 22 Premier League goals during the 2009-10 season and 16 in the 2005-06 campaignand helping Chelsea win numerous trophies throughout his career.

Of course, Shearer's praise of Lampard has not gone down well with Chelsea supporters...

Comparing a kid with a legend who has won it all. No comparison, end of. https://t.co/hAEB2YpVaW

Alan Shearer comparing Dele Alli to Frank Lampard 😂😂😂
Man is clueless 😂 Lampard was Ronaldinho away from winning Balon Dor 😂😂

Dele Alli the same breath as Frank Lampard?! What's Alan Shearer smoking😂😂

Shearer has defended his comparison, stating his comments have been taken out of context and misinterpreted by social media users.

50% of timeline is Chelsea fans telling me to f**k off Dele is no Lampard. Other 50% Spurs fans saying f**k off he's better than Frank! 😂😂

@Will_D89 @keaano @alanshearer Dele will most definitely be a better player than Frank was! 100%

Whereas Lampard won three Premier League, four FA Cups, a Champions League and a Europa League title, Dele Alli is still in the early stages of his career and won't turn 21 until April next year. While Chelsea fans may not be too enthusiastic about the comparison, there's no doubting Alli will be vital to any success Spurs or England can hope to accomplish in the future.
