Jordan Ayew deserves to be the next captain of the Black Stars in the absence of Andre Ayew and Jonathan Mensah, former Kotoko defender Rahim Ayew has noted.

After making his first senior appearance for Ghana on 5 September 2010, in a 3–0 2012 AFCON Qualification match win against Swaziland, the striker has gone on to become a key member of the team.

At the end of the 2019/2020 football season in England, Jordan Ayew has been voted as the Crystal Palace ‘Player of the Season’.

Speaking to Asempa FM on the performance of his brother in the past year, Rahim Ayew has stressed that Jordan deserves to be the next captain after Andre and Jonathan Mensah.

“What I know personally, apart from Jonathan Mensah, I think Jordan should be the next captain because he’s been there for long”, Rahim said.

He continued, “But sometimes [you see that] the captainship, a coach can come [and] can change his mind. But I think that he [Jordan] deserves to be the assistant captain for now.

“I mean he deserves it. He has the character [and] he is a leader as well [you know], he is a leader.

“So me [if Jordan is made] assistant captain, I won’t be surprised”.

In addition to winning the Crystal Palace ‘Player of the Season’ award, Jordan Ayew has also scooped home the ‘Players, Player of the Season’ and the ‘Goal of the Season’ award, as well.
