Ranieri set for cash backing

Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri is happy to work with the squad at his disposal, but will be backed by funds in January if he needs new faces.

The 67-year-old Italian was drafted in to replace the sacked Slavisa Jokanovic on Wednesday as the Cottagers' owner and chairman Shahid Khan opted to make the change with the Londoners languishing at the bottom of the Premier League having won just one of their opening 12 matches this season.

Ranieri said at his press conference that he felt Fulham have enough quality in their ranks to pull away from relegation danger given that around £100million was spent in the summer to bolster the squad.

For now I have to work with these players. I haven't met them all yet because of the international break - but already I love them. I want them to bring their best.

However, the man who helped shock the footballing world when he guided Leicester to the Premier League title in 2015-16, has confirmed that he will be given money to spend in January if he requires it.

"I spoke with the chairman about this," Ranieri told Sky Sports. "There are some people that are working [on recruitment] and then they put to me some players.

"They show me the name and after I have to choose who is the right player for us - I am happy with that.

"For now I have to work with these players. I haven't met them all yet because of the international break - but already I love them. I want them to bring their best.

"After, if there is something, I can say to the chairman 'I need another player because I need this kind on the team' - that's another thing."

Fulham, who are 11/8 to avoid relegation, face fellow strugglers Southampton at Craven Cottage in Ranieri's first game in charge next weekend and they are 31/20 to make a winning start. The Saints are priced at 9/5 to win and the draw is 11/5.
