Ghanaian International and Red Star Belgrade player, Rashid Summaila has stated that he is confident Ghana’s Black Stars can win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) set to be hosted by Egypt next month.
The West African giants will be fighting for a fifth AFCON trophy this year after failing to clinch the ultimate prize for the past 37 years. Though the Stars have come close to winning it in the last 3 tournaments, the odds of finally breaking the age old jinx is even much smaller especially when it will be the record holders – Egypt – who will be hosting the rest of Africa.
Speaking to footballmadeinghana.com, Rashid Sumaila says he is optimistic of the Black Stars chances of winning the AFCON title this year. According to the defender, the success of the team will be dependent on their ability to fight and get to the finals.
“We have great players and I feel we can do something very meaningful in Egypt. We have come close twice and we can win it this third time if we get to the finals. It is always great to serve your nation and we are all ready to offer our quota if we are called”, he said.
Ghana has been pitted in Group F of the Nations Cup alongside defending Champions Cameroon, Guinea Bissau and Benin.
