Real Madrid President Admits He Signs Players 'to Generate Revenue' in Shirt Sales

Real Madrid presidentFlorentino Perez has admitted that he signs players 'who will make money' on shirt-sales.

The 69-year-old has been tasked with bringing inplenty of star-talent to the Bernabeu during his 22-year spell at the club, with the likes of David Beckham, Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane all moving for mega-money in the 00's.

And now, the motive behind such transfers has been made clear, with Perez claiming that one of the key questions whensigning a player is: 'what income is generated?'

"People understand the obvious “ that we sign big players like Ronaldo, [Zinedine] Zidane and [Luis] Figo. But after the players there is the economic sports equation", theDaily Mailquote Perez as saying.

He continued:"In our model it is fundamental to understand that in the signing of every player, we have to have in our heads: what's the income generated?

"In the year 2000, Real Madrid suffered a very big economic crisis.

"So big that it risked losing its status as a member-owned club. But the club has to belong to its members and not belong to just one individual."

Former Real coach Vicente Del Bosque's assistantToni Grande revealed Perez's hands-on approach earlier this week, claiming that it was his decision to leave Fernando Morientes out of the 2002 European Super Cup final.

He said:"An hour before the game against Feyenoord Jorge Valdano came in and said to Vicente: 'Tell Fernando [Morientes] to not get changed because he is being transferred. It's an order from the president'."
