Red Bull Leipzig Boss Explains Why He Wouldn't Be Interested in Transfers for Messi or Ronaldo

Red Bull Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnickhas revealed that he would turn down transfers for super stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming that the pair are 'too old and expensive' for his club.

Leipzig have enjoyed an absolutely incredible start to the season so far, remaining unbeaten and top the table by three points after 13 games.

But their success story, unlike many others, is not down to a star-studded line-up of expensive talent, it's down to a young squad who are eager to impress at the highest level.

Boasting an average squad age of just 23, Rangnick feels like signing veteran stars like Ronaldo or Messi would go against the club's philosophy, changing exactly what has seen them become so successful.

Asked about the possibility of signing either Messi or Ronaldo, asquoted by AS, Rangnick said:"It would be crazy to say they could fit in with the model we have here. They are too old and too expensive..."

It would be absurd."

Over the summer Leipzig signed a number of young stars, bringing in Oliver Burke, 19, from NottinghamForest, Naby Keita, 21,from Salzburg as well as 20-year-oldTimo Werner.

Rangnick admitted that his side lack experience:"We have the youngest and most inexperienced team in the Bundesliga," while also commenting on his side's quite unbelievable league position:"I don't know whether it's a revolution"

He continued: "But it's unusual for a team which was in the Fourth Division three and a half years ago to be in the top flight and on 33 points after 13 games. Nobody expected that".
