RESEARCH: Ghana starlet Joe Dodoo most prolific striker at Rangers

Published on: 19 December 2016

An analysis conducted by the Daily Record newspaper has found Ghana striker Joe Dodoo to be statistically the most prolific striker at Scottish Premier League side Rangers.

Although Dodoo, 21, has struggled to break into the Leicester first 11, he has scored two goals in 272 minutes - a goal every 136 minutes.

The speed merchant has made only 10 appearances this season with 8 coming-off the bench.

His two league starts - one of which lasted 15 minutes - is all Dodoo has mustered in the first half of the season and he has had to make do with the odd appearance from the bench.

Nothing confirms a footballer’s hero status among his own support more than a song echoing round the stands dedicated to their name.

Case in point: Joe Garner at Rangers .

Garner is fast becoming the new cult hero among Gers fans with the Ibrox faithful gushing over his all-action, blood-and-thunder displays.

The former Preston pocket rocket has no doubt stepped up his game in recent weeks coinciding with Rangers’ change to a more direct style resulting in a run of three wins on the bounce thrusting them into second place.

Unselfish and hard working, his terrior-like displays torment defences and help bring his team-mates into play.

But do the striker's stats in the dangerzone back up his new-found status as a hero among the Ibrox faithful?

Because just who is the most lethal marksman at Rangers so far this season?

We've taken a look at the stats for the four recognised strikers at Ibrox to answer that very question. Taking only league appearances into account we look at their minutes-played-to-goals-scored ratio.

Joe Garner:

Appearances: 15 (3 off the bench)

Minutes played: 1014

Goals: 3

Minutes per goal: 338 Garner is flavour of the month with the Ibrox faithful for his 100 per cent effort and robust displays but his hard work outside the box could be seen to put him at a disadvantage in the goalscoring stakes with just three strikes all season coming against Celtic, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock - the last of which was back in October.

Kenny Miller

Appearances: 17 (3 off the bench)

Minutes played: 1123

Goals: 4

Minutes per goal: 280

The veteran striker is still widely held as the most clinical and streetwise striker at Ibrox. He may be 36 now but Miller is in fine shape and has appeared in all but one of Rangers' 18 league matches this season. Miller's movement pulls defences all over the place and it is no shock he is a firm favorite with Warburton. With four league goals he is also the highest scorer in the Premiership at Ibrox.

Martyn Waghorn

Appearances: 12 (8 off the bench)

Minutes played: 461

Goals: 3

Minutes per goal: 153

Last season's star man, Waghorn struggled with the step-up to the Premiership despite opening his account with a goal in the first game of the season against Hamilton. The Englishman then drifted out of the starting XI as he struggled for form and fitness and had to wait until last Friday for his second - and third - league goals again against Hamilton Accies. Nevertheless he responded when handed a start in place of Miller and could possibly go on to form a strong partnership with Garner.

Joe Dodoo

Appearances: 10 (8 off the bench)

Minutes played: 272

Goals: 2

Minutes per goal: 136

Two goals coming off the bench against Partick Thistle last month make Dodoo, statistically, the most prolific striker at Rangers. Of course that tells us little about his game and the speed-merchant has struggled to break into the starting XI since his summer move from Leicester. Two league starts - one of which lasted 15 minutes - is all Dodoo has mustered in the first half of the season and he has had to make do with the odd appearance from the bench.
