Rev Kofi Pare has paid tribute to 1963 Afcon winner and teammate Emmanuel Oblitey who passed away on March 18, 2023.

Oblitey, a defender, played three games at the 1963 Afcon tournament hosted in Ghana. Sudan claimed second place, United Arab Republic (now Egypt) third, and Ethiopia fourth. Egyptian Hassan El-Shazly was the top scorer with six goals. He was also named the best player in the tournament.

Rev Kofi Pare took to Twitter to post his tribute, "We share many experiences on and off the pitch, including fond memories, which deepen our friendship. OB contributed greatly to making the idea of the Retired National Footballers Association a reality,"

Kofi Pare prayed that Emmanuel Oblitey's legacy would inspire the next generation of players and lovers of the beautiful game.

Emmanuel Oblitey also competed for Ghana in football at the 1964 Olympics. Oblitey played for Great Olympics, Real Republikans, and was part of the Ghana squad that toured Europe in 1961.
