Manchester City are still paying Atletico Madrid money for Sergio Aguero, even more than five years after the Argentine completed his £38m move to England, because of a clause that was inserted into the agreement when the sale was made.
In the latest information to emerge from 'Phase 2' of the 'Football Leaks' wave, Belgian outlet Le Soir has made public the small detail that entitles Atletico to substantial continued payments.
Le Soir specifies that Atletico 'have reason to rejoice when their former marksmen scores goals in the English league', as for every 15 goals that Agueroracks up, City must pay a further €250,000 into the Madrid club's pocket.
The 28-year-old has scored 112 in the Premier League since arriving in England from Spain in 2011, including 10 so far in 12 appearances in 2016/17. It means Atletico have received €1.75m in extra payments and will be due the next bonus when Aguero reaches 120 goals.
Aguero remains the second fastest player in Premier League history to reach the century milestone, slower than only Alan Shearer when he netted for his 100th goal against Newcastle in April this year.
But for the disruption of injuries, he might have scored even more. The former Independiente prodigy has only twice played more than 30 league games a season across his five complete campaigns to date, and has never played more than 34.
He scored 17 goals in just 23 appearances in 2013/14 as City won a second Premier League title, with Aguero scoring the historic last gasp goal that sealed the first two years earlier.
