REVEALED: Mourinho convinced De Gea not to quit Man Utd (last year)

Published on: 03 June 2017

Jose Mourinho convinced David de Gea not to quit Manchester United last summer, it has been revealed.

The Telegraph says De Gea actually considered leaving last summer, less than a year after signing the extension, after growing unhappy with life under Louis van Gaal.

United were infamously insipid under the Dutchman, who was axed after the club finished outside of the Champions League positions.

It is said, however, that the appointment of Mourinho then changed his mind.

The 26-year-old felt that his arrival, combined with the signings of stellar names such as Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, would see them mount a title charge.

And today, United feel they are well primed to keep their star asset despite Real Madrid's long-term interest.
